  • What is a Smart City

    The answer is, there is no universally accepted definition of a Smart City. It means different things to different people. The conceptualisation of Smart City, therefore, varies from city to city and country to country, depending on the level of development, willingness to change and reform, resources and aspirations of the city residents. A Smart City would have a different connotation in India than, say, Europe. Even in India, there is no one way of defining a Smart City.

  • What is a Smart City

    For the citizen, a Smart City contains a wish list of infrastructure and services based on their own level of aspiration. Urban planners ideally aim at developing the urban eco-system, which is represented by the four pillars of comprehensive development — institutional, physical, social and economic infrastructure. This can be a long-term goal and cities can work towards developing such comprehensive infrastructure incrementally, adding on layers of smartness.

  • Smart City Proposal

    For selecting any city under the Smart City Mission, the Government of India had floated a Smart City Challenge. The City had submitted the Smart City Challenge (Stage 2) and the Smart City Proposal (SCP). The SCP was formulated based on meetings with the ULB, public hearings, High Powered Steering Committee Meetings etc. Thus, the SCP is the primary document based on which the various activities are taken up. There is no set DPR of Smart City.

  • Smart City Proposal

    After submission of the proposals, Gangtok was selected in the Round 3 of the Challenge. As per the verticals contained in the SCP, the existing data is studied or data collection and studies are taken up, a preliminary concept is prepared and stake holder’s meeting is conducted. The DPRs of individual works are then prepared and the works taken up.

  • About GSCDL

    As per the implementation Guidelines of the Union Ministry, the works envisaged in the Smart City Mission was required to be taken up through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). Accordingly, based on Government approval, Gangtok Smart City Development Ltd was registered as a Company in the office of the Registrar of Companies (Kolkata), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India. The Company is headed by a Chief Executive Officer and reports to the Board of Directors.

  • About GSCDL

    Continued...

    The routine affairs of the Company is serviced by the personnel posted there by the State Government or as appointed by the Company. Presently the Company is also supported by a team from M/S Grant Thronton India Ltd who are the Project Management Development Consultants. GSCDL is a company incorporated under Indian Companies Act 2013.
